In the early days, our community lived in the forums. Users would upload and share files there all the time — but back then, storage space was far more limited than it is today. To keep things running, we constantly had to clear out old files, just so people had room to upload something new.
At the same time, requests kept pouring in to bring back files that had already been deleted. It became an endless cycle of work. The webmaster had to save every single file that was ever uploaded, dig the right ones back out, re-upload them, and then post all the links once more. The effort was enormous.
To ease the load, we started booking external filehosters as a temporary fix. But they turned out to be unreliable — some of them simply disappeared overnight. It was clear we needed a better solution.
So we finally invested in a dedicated storage server, built for one purpose: to keep all of those uploaded files safe. Over the years, the collection grew to many thousands of files. Today, everything is stored in a database and can be retrieved with ease. That is what you now see — and can use — as DevilWorks.
